Efforts on to speed up Metro Rail projects in Vizag, Amaravati
The state government, which cleared the Vizag Metro Rail VMR project proposals for 4255 km long line with three corridors, has speeded up the process
Visakhapatnam: The state government, which cleared the Vizag Metro Rail (VMR) project proposals for 42.55 km long line with three corridors, has speeded up the process.
The estimated project cost is Rs 8,300. Principal secretary, municipal administration and urban development R Karikal Valaven held a review meeting on the project here on Wednesday. Collector Pravin Kumar, VMRDA commissioner Basanth Kumar, commissioner of GVMC M Hari Narayan, VMR managing director M P Ramakrishna Reddy and other senior officials took part in the meeting.
Speaking in the meeting, Karikal Valaven said that January 21, 2019, was the last date to participate in the bids for the VMR project. As many as 38 stations were planned covering the three corridors (Kommadi-Gajuwaka 30.8-km, Gurudwara-Old Post Office 5.25 km and Thatichetlapalem-ChinaWaltair 6.5 km) under the project.
He said of the total project cost, 51 per cent is for civil infrastructure and 49 per cent for non-civil infrastructure. The VMR is the biggest project proposed under the public- private partnership mode, he added.
On Amaravati Metro Rail project, Valaven said that the government was ready to provide 250 acre land. Commercial and residential colonies, shopping malls, and IT SEZ would be developed to generate revenue and pay the government towards the land cost in a period of 20 years, he explained. “Already five parties have been shortlisted and tender process will be completed by January 21, 2019. Foundation stone will be laid by February-end, 2019,” he said.
VMR managing director Ramakrishna Reddy said that 92.4 per cent of the land required for the project belongs to the government and there would be no problem to acquire the remaining land. The railways has already sanctioned permission and NOC from National Highway Authority of India was awaited. As many as two depots were proposed for the Metro Rail.
The VPT is giving its land for one depot near Airport and revenue officials are working to allot land near Hanumanthawaka for the second depot, he added. MLA P Vishnukumar Raju asked the officials to extend the project to Anandapuram as there is a number of engineering colleges located.
Collector Pravin Kumar also suggested the same in view of the coming Green Field Airport in Bhogapuram and 6-lane roads. Visakhapatnam MP K.Haribabu, MLAs V Ganesh Kumar, P V G R Naidu were also present.
