Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh State Secretariat and Heads of Department building complex will be one of the largest and tallest commercial buildings in the country, at 50 storey tall and 6.9 million sq.ft, explained Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu while laying raft foundation, a massive concrete foundation laying programme on Thursday at Amaravati.

The built-up area is around 56 lakh sq. ft and 13 lakh sq. ft for parking to facilitate 4,000 cars at a time. Each floor plate is 47mX47m. The total site area is 41 acres.

He said that the buildings are designed for 16,000 employees and 10,000 visitors. The complex is designed for maximum efficiency and hosts amenities in line with top corporate offices.

The office complex consists of 4 towers with 40 floors and the GAD (CM) tower with administrative and regulatory sector as the tallest on the southwest with 50 floors.

The building boasts of multiple “firsts”, such as first integrated Secretariat, incorporation of twin lifts, utilizing a District Cooling System for air conditioning, a roof-top helipad and a Platinum level green building rating.

The construction is being undertaken at a swift pace against all odds with the help of international expertise on the project, he said.

The Integrated Secretariat & HOD building is being designed with the Heads of Departments and Secretariat co-located in an integrated manner to bring efficiency of working, for the first time in India, he added.

Government integrated 145 departments to enable better efficiency in workflow and better interaction between the departments, thereby better coordination and most importantly for convenience of the public.

A total of 5 towers in the complex are designed, all connected by a three storey podium at the base.

The concept integrates office spaces (chambers, open office etc.), conference facilities and other office amenities, with the connected podiums consisting of common amenities for the staff.

Beautiful landscapes and a pedestrian friendly environment has also been planned, to meet the vision for Amaravati.

The office complex is designed for 16,000 employees across all the departments and Ministries and also provisions for 10,000 visitors.

World renowned architects Foster + Partners, UK and consortium (Genesis Planners, Hyderabad) have been engaged as consultants for providing comprehensive architectural services for the project.

Structural design is being done by world renowned structural designers Buro Happold, London, peer review by Thornton Tomasetti, USA.
