Secretariat complex set to have many unique features

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh state Secretariat and Heads of Departments building complex, foundation for which was laid by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Nelapadu in Guntur district on Thursday, will be one of the largest and tallest commercial buildings in the country at 50-storey tall and 6.9 million sq ft.
The building boasts of multiple ‘firsts’, such as first integrated Secretariat, incorporation of twin lifts, utilizing a District Cooling System for air conditioning, a roof-top helipad and a platinum level green building rating.
The new Secretariat Complex is the tallest in India with height of 225 metre. The building is structurally stable and is resistant to earthquakes and high wind speeds.
For the first time in India, the structure is designed on the unique structural system called diagrid without the conventional columns. This gives column free spaces and flexibility.
The structure consists of perimeter frame, has a column-free interior space. It gives more usable area without any obstacles and a beautiful view for high rise towers. It saves considerable amount of structural steel compared with conventional columns. Moreover, it acts a self-shading and reduces the heat gain from the sun and helps in reducing the HVAC costs.
The core of the building consists of all the necessary services needed for the functionality of the building. The building will have a Destination Control System (DCS) for quick vertical transportation.
First time in India, CRDA (Capital Region Development Agency) is using the twin lift technology, in which two elevators operate in same lift shaft thus saving usable office area.
Much consideration was given for safety as per NBC norms. Additionally, helipad is also provided on General Administration Department (GAD) tower, serving as means of evacuation. Top class amenities have been planned, apart from health care facilities in the campus along with fitness centres and sports complex.
The building generates part of electricity needed through roof-top solar panels thus reducing the load on the electricity grid. A total of five towers in the complex are designed, all connected by a three-storey podium at the base.
The concept integrates office spaces (chambers, open office, etc.,), conference facilities and other office amenities, with the connected podiums consisting of common amenities for the staff. Beautiful landscapes and a pedestrian-friendly environment has also been planned, to meet the vision for Amaravati.
