Vijayawada: Two-day nation-wide strike call given by various trade unions evoked mixed response in Vijayawada city on the first day on Tuesday. Hundreds of employees working in various State and Central government departments boycotted duties and participated in the strike.

The CITU, AITUC, IFTU and other trade unions linked to the banks, LIC and other corporations joined the strike and condemned the policies of the Union and State governments. The trade unions have alleged the BJP led Government is supporting privatisation and neglecting the working class.

Addressing a meeting at the Lenin Centre, AITUC General Secretary G Obulesu and CITU state General Secretary M A Gafoor have alleged the state government employees, Anganwadi workers, workers in the unorganised sector are not getting justice.

They said the state and central Governments are implementing the anti-workers and anti-farmers policies Banks employees affilated to AIBEA, BEFI and other associaions boycotted duties and extended support to the two day strike
