Bhimavaram: For the overall progress of nation, researches should work hard to keep the country on par with other developed nations, said Dr Alangovan Kariappan, assistant innovation director, Innovation cell, government of India.

He was the chief guest at an awareness workshop on ‘Smart India Hackathon 2019’ held at SRKR Engineering College for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states under the supervision of college technology head Dr N Gopalakrishna Murthy here on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, Kariappan said that the responsibility lies on the youth of the country to show the efficiency to the world and said that the present global innovation index rate was 30 in 2018 and 57 in 2017.

These workshops were organised to develop innovative skills among the students and through the Institute of Innovative Council (IIC) about 1,000 colleges were selected, including NITs, IITs, AICTEs.

He said that competitions would be held on innovative cell in two phases. Software should be developed in 36 hours and hardware product should be developed in five days.

AICTE Hyderabad regional director Dr Ramesh Unnikrishnan said apart from students of IIT and NIT talented students from all colleges will be given a chance in the competitions.

He said that about 100 students will be given chance to go abroad through IIC, he said and added that students will receive awards from the President of India to encourage startups.

College principal faculty and students from both the Telugu speaking states were present.
