Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that happiness in poor man’s eyes is a real Sankranti while terming the doubling of social security pensions as a Sankranti gift to them.

He also conveyed his greetings to Telugu people across the globe on the occasion of Bhogi and Sankranti. The government was giving pensions to 50,61,906 beneficiaries to provide social security, he said and urged the people to bless him by extending their support again for continuing the welfare schemes.

In a press release on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that the Sankranti festival has a distinction of showcasing the Telugu culture and heritage to world.

The cultural events like folk dances and songs, bonfires, rangolis are specialty of bhogi he said and added that all the members in a family meet on the occasion. He said that the farmers also receive crops at the time and it is a real festival for farmers.

The Chief Minister said that the state achieved Rs 44,000 crore worth crop yield during the last four years with Pattiseema project. He further said that the water was diverted to Rayalaseema from Krishna river, thanks to the lift irrigation scheme.

He said that he had initiated works for the merger of rivers and the 65 per cent works of Polavaram project had been completed so far. The works of Amaravati capital city are going on at a brisk pace, he said and added that Kia motor company unit at Aantapur was coming up fast.

“I am working for 18 hours a day. The state government achieved double digit growth with the support of employees. The agriculture sector registered 18 per cent growth though there has been a deficit rainfall,” he noted. Naidu congratulated the farmers for their efforts in registering a remarkable growth in agriculture sector.
