Rajamahendravaram: The people celebrated Bhogi, the first day of three-day Sankranthi festival in the city with religious fervour. They woke up early in the morning and lit Bhogi mantalu with dung cakes, stem of palm trees and other material.

Elders and children of every house participated in the festival wearing new dress. Bhogi mantalu arranged on the roads, despite municipal commissioner's appeals not to do so. Meanwhile, all the temples crowded with the devotees because of Bhogi fest.

Special poojas were offered in the temples and the people were in jubilant mood because of the three day festival.
