Thousands participate in Prabhala Teerdham

Rajamahendravaram: The entire area of Jaggannathota near Ambajipeta was buzzed with spiritual activity 'Prabhala Teerdham' a celestial event which is part of three-day Sankranti festival. The programme was started with gaiety and pomp by firing crackers and thousands of people participated in the event to get the blessings of Ekadasa Rudras.
Sankranti Prabhalu is a major attraction on Kanuma festival, the last day of three-day Sankranti festival in East Godavari district, especially in Konaseem area. Prabhalu are the replicas of 11 Rudras (Shiva) of 11 villages in Konaseema region. They will be decorated with various flowers, fruits, vegetables, coconut leaves to a height of about 50 feet and with a width of 30 feet by using bamboos in the name of respective village Gods.
As many as 50 villagers, from each village of the 11 villages, carry them on their shoulders crossing canals, coconut orchards and paddy fields and finally reach Jaggannathota hamlet of Mosalapalli village in Ambajipeta mandal. Farmers allow Prabhalu from their fields with the belief that the God will bless them. Making of Prabhalu is in practice for over 400 years, according to a manuscript available in Bhogeswara Swamy temple of Ambajipeta.
Madhumanantha Bhogeswara Swamy of Mosalapalli held his first meeting with 11 Rudras at Jaggannathota to discuss about the prosperity of the people. It is the first of its kind in the country that 11 Rudras meet at one place and the devotees carry them chanting Assarabha Sarabha' and thousands of people accompany them.
According to a farmer M Rama Krishna of Ambajipeta, Prabhalu are the replicas of Ekadasa Rudras (11 forms of Lord Shiva) from various parts of Konaseema region. The convergence of Ekadasa Rudras brings in peace and prosperity. The Ekadasa Rudras and villages are: Veereswara Swamy from Gangalakurru Agraharam, Chenna Malleswara Swamy from Gangalakurru, Vyagreswara Swamy from Vyagreswara Puram, Chenna Malleswara Swamy from Palagummi, Menakeswara Swamy from K Pedapudi, Ananda Rameswara Swamy from Irusumanda, Kasi Visweswara Swamy from Vakkalanka, Chenna Malleswara Swamy from Nedunuru, Raghaveswara Swamy from Mukkamala, Madhumantha Bhogeswara Swamy from Mukkamala and Abhinava Vyagreswara Swamy from Pulletikurru villages.
Jaggnnathota named after Peddapuram ruler Raja Vatsavayi Jagannadha Maharaj, who visited Prabhas and offered prayers to them and from then onwards, the venue is called as Jaggannathota. Meanwhile, Prabhala teerdhalu are also conducted in the villages of Gollavilli, Sannavilli, Chirathapudi, Pedmadi, Cheyyeru etc but Jagannathota Prabhalu Teerdham is famous which was in vogue for 415 years.
