Visakhapatnam: Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao has been appointed as Colonel in the National Cadet Corps (NCC), making him the first person in Telugu states to achieve the rare honour. The Vice-Chancellor will act as Colonel Commandant, NCC, Andhra University, according to Gazette notification on Thursday.

Prof Nageswara Rao took over as Vice Chancellor of Andhra University on July 17, 2016. He joined as a faculty member in 1989 in the Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry and became Professor in 2006.

Rao is now a Member of Governing Body of the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla, having been nominated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. He is also a Member, Advisory Committee of Centre for Space Science & Technology Education in the Asia-Pacific Region of the United Nations.
