Visakhapatnam: To ensure a comfortable journey to commuters by providing upgraded facilities in the rail coaches, the Waltair Railway Division of East Coast Railway Zone has taken up the project ‘Utkrisht.’
The Indian Railways has introduced the project aiming to upgrade coaches in express trains. Under the project, the interiors and exteriors of coaches will be given a facelift with a better standard.
Several parameters have been identified by the Railway Ministry for the upgrade of these trains including improvement facilities in toilets, seats and berths to floor and exteriors.
Under the project, PVC flooring will be changed, in case it is defaced or damaged. Coach panels with patches/faded sheets will be replaced with new panels.
The roof will also be repaired wherever required. All seats and berths with torn rexine or compress cushioning will be replaced. To ensure safety of passengers, fire extinguishers will be installed in all reserved coaches.
Quality curtains will be provided in AC coaches and periodic cleaning of these coaches will be ensured. Additionally, all AC coaches will have toilet occupancy indicators. Double acting partition doors will be provided as well.
It will be made sure that the vestibule and vestibule door is in proper working condition. A paint touches up of all coaches will be done. The doorway and gangway area will be given an anti-graffiti vinyl wrapping, and each coach will have LED lighting.
PVC flooring in toilets will be replaced with epoxy flooring to prevent water puddles. It must be made sure that all bio-toilets and controlled-discharge toilets are in working order. Improved flushing valves will be provided as per RDSO designs.
Speaking to The Hans India, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Waltair Division, G Suneel Kumar said, "All the coaches of the express and mail trains will be upgraded with new facilities. Presently we have taken up the upgrading works for one rake.
After getting the feedback, all the other coaches of express and mail trains will be upgraded with new facilities."
