Childline boosts confidence in girls to complain against rapists

Ongole: The awareness programme conducted by Help NGO, Girls Advocacy Alliance and Childline 1098 in a school helped a girl boost her confidence and complain with police on two persons, who are raping her for the last one year.

According to the Childline coordinators, II Town police CI Rambabu and AP Women Commission member T Ramadevi, the girl family joined a portion of the house of Anjaneyulu as tenants a year ago.

The families developed a friendship in a while and the girl used to visit their neighbors occasionally. But Anjaneyulu, with the help their maid, raped the girl in December 2017 and continued abusing her. On learning about the incident, son-in-law of Anjaneyulu also raped her.

Being National Girl Child Day on January 24, the Childline, Help, Girls Advocacy Alliance organised a number of awareness programmes for the students, adults at various places.

After the programme at a school, the girl asked the Childline programme officers BV Sagar and Mantru Naik about what security that would offer to a girl and family if anyone comes forward to complain on people harassing her. With the assured total anonymity and legal action on the people responsible for the abuse, the girl opened up and revealed her dark secret.

Receiving the complaint from Mantru Naik, the police registered a case under the POCSO Act and started the investigation after shifting the girl to RIMS Hospital for tests. Women Commission member Ramadevi visited the girl and consoled her.

She appreciated the Childline staff and asked the Sakhi staff at RIMS to provide solace to the victims like these and boost their confidence. Ramadevi announced that the Women Commission will stand as support to the girl and demanded action on the culprits.
