Visakhapatnam: Simhadri Super Thermal Power Plant (SSTPP) of NTPC is achieving the cent per cent fly ash utilisation with the support of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). With the strict guidelines from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest, the thermal power plants should take steps for cent per cent utilisation of the fly ash. During the recent times, the utilisation of the fly ash increased in various sectors.

About 8,000 tonnes of fly ash being generated by the SSTPP, which is a 2,000 MW thermal power plant, located in Parawada in the district. As part of cent per cent utilisation of fly ash, the management is offering the ash to brick industries, cement factories and some other sectors.

The NHAI is also using the ash for laying highways in the country. The NHAI, is presently constructing six-lane highway from Anandapuram to Ranasthalam in Srikakulam district. The NHAI is using about 7,000 mt fly ash of SSTPP for its highway construction. Meanwhile, over 300 fly ash brick companies registered with SSTPP also taking ash.

The weightless bricks will have more demand for the apartment constructions. Meanwhile, the basements and underground works have also being taken up by the fly ash bricks. "We are disposing cent per cent fly ash. During the recent times, the fly ash is being used in multiple applications.
