Mentally-ill man kills unidentified person

Visakhapatnam: A 40-year-old unidentified person was found dead in a drain on Raja Rammohan Roy Road near 1-town area by the locals here on Wednesday.

According to the I-town police, the deceased was aged around 40 years. On observing the CCTV footage, the police came to a conclusion that a mentally-disabled person who was roaming on roads had killed the man who was sleeping on the roadside in the midnight of Tuesday (early hours of Wednesday) by hitting him with a big stone on his head and dragged him into a nearby drain after he died.

Police moved the body to KGH for post-mortem and the mentally-disabled man was admitted to a mental hospital in the city. Police are investigating the case in several angles to also identify if there is any relationship between the accused and the victim and the causes which led to the attack.

Some of the denizens lamented that in recent times many mentally-disabled persons from North India were roaming on the city roads and they were involved in violent acts, shouting and attacking people. They urged the officials to take necessary action against such mentally-ill persons.
