Guntur: A 30-years-old man raped a seven-year-old girl at Tumrukota village under Rentachintala mandal in the district on Tuesday night. According to police, accused Miriyala Jaya Rao, who was in an inebriated condition, allegedly raped the girl who was going to attend nature’s call in the village on Tuesday night. When the victim screamed for help, neighbours rushed to the spot and but Jaya Rao fled by then.
The parents of the girl lodged a complaint with Rentachintala police late in the night. The family members, relatives and Yadava associations staged a protest at Palavai Junction on Macherla highway on Wednesday demanding justice to the victim. The two-hour protest resulted in stranding of a large number of vehicles on both sides on Macherla highway. Police swung into action and brought the situation under control later.
The victim was shifted to GGH in Guntur city for better treatment. Gurazala DSP K Srihari Babu told the Hans India that the accused Jaya Rao was arrested near Piduguralla town on Wednesday. “We have also taken a woman in Piduguralla into custody for giving shelter to the accused after he committed the offence. We have registered the case and taken up the investigation,” he added.
