Vijayawada: Police foiled the Chalo Assembly march by government employees on Thursday opposing the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). Hundreds of employees working in various state government departments and teachers tried to march towards the state Assembly demanding the government to scrap the CPS. But, a large number of police present on Prakasam barrage and at Undavalli junction prevented the employees from going towards the Assembly.

The employees under the aegis of CPS Employees Union gave a call for Chalo Assembly agitation on Thursday demanding replacement of CPS with old pension scheme. Expecting a huge number of employees marching towards the Assembly, hundreds of police were posted on both sides of Prakasam barrage since early morning.

Employees were arrested and taken to various police stations in the city and later released. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Prakasam barrage, Undavalli junction, Kaleswararao Market, Canal road due to the protests of the employees. Police set up barricades on the roads and obstructed the vehicles for more than an hour.
