Vijayawada: The State government is going to conduct ‘Powering Andhra Pradesh: Energy Innovations Summit 2019’ in Vijayawada city from February 5 to 6 in association with Dalberg, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Indian Chamber of Commerce and the Energy Resources Institute (TERI).
A first of its kind, the summit in an emerging economy’s energy context in many ways can help Andhra Pradesh take concrete steps towards achieving its energy sector vision.
On this occasion, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked the officials to explore the leading innovations and technology trends in the energy sector that can help Andhra Pradesh during the global event on energy sector that would be held in the city.
The Chief Minister said the government planned the summit with a view to identify innovations, cutting-edge technologies and global best practices in the energy sector that can help to strengthen the AP power sector, solve energy related challenges and benefit the people of the State. The Chief Minister also said that there was no doubt the State had achieved major milestones in power sector.
The power sector had played a key role in achieving double digit growth, improving brand image of AP and attracting global investors such as Kia Motors to the State. “Though we have already been supplying 24x7 power, we have now to focus on reaching global standards.
People as well as industries should be provided interruption-free quality power at affordable prices as the power supply is considered as the backbone to the economic development of the State. Besides, achieving 100 per cent public satisfaction is the ultimate aim for our government,” he said.
Emphasising the need for adopting a perfect mechanism to make the 24x7 power supply as a permanent and sustained welfare scheme, the Chief Minister said and directed the officials to make proper plans to continue the ambitious plan of ensuring no hike in power tariff in future also.
“In fact, I am satisfied with the historic decision of no hike in power tariffs for around 98 per cent of people.
The State government has not increased even single paisa for 99 per cent consumers this year. No State in India has taken such a daring step. As the second phase of power sector reforms has become successful, there is a possibility to implement the no hike in power tariffs in future also,” he said.
He also said that no State in India was bearing a huge amount of Rs 6,030.17 crore as subsidy to supply free power to agriculture, he said. Minister (Energy), K Kala Venkata Rao, Chief Secretary Anil Chandra Punetha, Principal Secretary for Energy and APCRDA Ajay Jain, CMD of AP Transco K Vijayanand and several CMO officials took part in the teleconference.
