Eluru: The home guards in the district contributed their one-day salary to extend financial assistance to the family of deceased home guard T Nageswara Rao.
The home guard died of illness on May 6. A cheque for Rs 3.26 lakh was handed over to his wife Satyavati by Superintendent of Police M Raviprakash at a programme held here on Monday.
The SP appreciated the home guards for showing sympathy for the bereaved family and pooling funds from their salary to support the family.
Earlier, the SP with the consent of home guards all over the district, agreed to accept one day salary of home guards towards contribution to fund retired or deceased home guards’ families. ‘A Home Guard Family Fund’ was created for the purpose.
