Anantapur: District superintendent of police (SP) GVG Ashok Kumar has launched the installation of 40 CCTV cameras in Radhakrishna Nagar by the colony resident welfare association at a cost of Rs 8 lakh, here on Wednesday.

Participating in the programme as the chief guest, Ashok Kumar lauded the colony residents for taking a major initiative in coordinating with the police in implementing safety and security measures. He said that the colony residents have shown the way to others on how civilian population can work with the police in implementing the home security plan.

The SP mentioned that CCTVs play a crucial role in curbing crimes, nabbing culprits and in traffic monitoring and controlling eve teasing and anti-social activities. One CCTV camera is equal to 30 policemen in duty. He asked people to take note of district police WhatsApp number 9989819191. In case of an emergency, the people can call the number and the police would land in any place in no time.

The SP felicitated Residents Welfare Association president Gopal Krishna and vice-president Ravi. Anantapur DSP P N Babu, III Town CI Maddileti and other police officials have participated.
