Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that the State government is providing permanent houses incorporating energy efficiency measures to economically weaker sections constructed under NTR Nagars scheme.

The Chief Minister said that unique non-breakable poly carbonate diffuser and aluminum housing based LED tubelights would be provided in the affordable housing scheme. The houses thus will have better illumination and they will also be fitted with BEE 5-star rated fans and LED bulbs which help in reducing electricity consumption and monthly electricity bill to poor.

The Chief Minister is going to inaugurate 4,800 houses built under NTR Nagars scheme at a cost of Rs 356.13 crore in Nellore on February 9. In view of this, in a teleconference, the Chief Minister said that the State government had created history in the country by inaugurating one lakh houses on the occasion of World Habitation Day in 2017 and again three lakh houses in a day in 2018.

“This is our track record that cannot be broken by any government in India. I am taking the responsibility of fulfilling the dreams of poor of having their own house. We are providing permanent houses on the lines of gated communities under NTR Nagars housing scheme. Despite financial crisis, AP is ahead in housing schemes with an aim that no eligible poor should be left without a permanent house,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that implementing energy efficiency measures in weaker section housing was unique and also for the first time in India. The installation of 5-star rated energy efficient appliances is being done through the AP Power DISCOMs and the AP State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation (APSEEDCO).

He also said the State has been at the forefront in implementing energy efficiency related programme like LED street lighting. Even the World Bank ranked the State No 1 in Energy Efficiency Preparedness Index, he said.

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MAUD) P Narayana, who visited housing project in Nellore along with Nellore District Collector R Muthyala Raju and APTIDCO Managing Director B M Diwan Mydeen, said the Chief Minister would inaugurate the houses in which energy efficient appliances are being installed by the APSEEDCO.

He said the MAUD and AP Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (APTIDCO) have taken up NTR Nagars scheme, under which more than 5 lakh houses were sanctioned in towns and cities in the State.

He also said that the government was using one of the world’s best Monolithic Concrete Construction technologies to construct houses to poor under NTR Nagars scheme.

Principal Secretary for MAUD Karikal Valaven said that out of the total 5 lakh houses sanctioned under NTR Nagars scheme in 101 urban local bodies, tender was finalised for 4,60,492 houses and 3.38 lakh houses have been grounded.

Around 1.2 lakh houses were completed so far and the remaining are in progress. He said the State government is providing Rs 13,035 crore as subsidy, physical and social infrastructure and land acquisition apart from providing free land worth of several thousand crores. APTIDCO MD B M Diwan Mydeen, Principal Secretary for Energy Ajay Jain and several officials were also present.
