Tirupati: Here is happy news for the denizens of the pilgrim city more so the taste buds. Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) conducting a three-day regional-level ‘street food festival’ beginning from Wednesday (February 13), to offer a wide range of street foods at Indira Maidanam here.

The vendors and women self-help groups (SHGs) engaged in the production and sale of food items, from the four Rayalaseema districts—Kurnool, Kadapa, Anantapur and Chittoor would participate in the ‘street food festival’ under the banner ‘Sheri Street Food Utsav’.

According to MEPMA project director AD Jyothi, the ‘street food festival’ under ‘Sheri Street food Utsav’ of the Centre is being held in three places in Andhra Pradesh including Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam where the food festival already began.

She said that the festival mainly aims to give an exposure to the street vendors and women SHG members eking livelihood through sale of food items to display their culinary skills which in turn help them to boost of their business.

In all, 60 stalls were set up to offer wide range of food items from morning 10.30 to 9 in the night. From the mouth-watering traditional Andhra and Rayalaseema food items, pickles, to food items of other states and the latest varieties will be offered by vendors and SHG women.

Some of the long list of varieties that would be available in the ‘street food festival’ includes Poleelu, Atharasalu, Bonda, Bajji Atukula Kabab, Pala Thalikalu, Sunundalu, Murukulu, Panipuri and juices.
