Ongole: The five women who participated in the 40th National Masters Athletics held from February 5 to 10 in Acharya Nagarjuna University brought 10 medals to the district and selected for the International Master Athletics Tournament.The Andhra Pradesh Master Athletes Federation president Damacharla Satya and Prakasam district secretary Sivasankar said that Alladi Sirisha Kumari, N Varalakshmi, Kallu Rajeswari, B Rajyalakshmi and K Menaka from the Prakasam district performed exceptionally and won a total of 10 medals in the National Masters Athletics Tournament.
They said Sirisha Kumari is working as physical education trainer in ZPHS Ponduru in Tangutur mandal. She won the Strong Woman award at national level, gold medal in hammer throw, silver in discuss throw and bronze in shot put in 35 years category. They informed that Varalakshmi, who is working as head constable in Kandukur police station has won silver in 400 metres hurdle and silver in 4X400 relay in 40 years category. Rajeswari, who is working in the Veterinary Dispensary at Errajarla in Tangutur mandal won silver in 4X400 relay in 35 years category.
Rajyalakshmi, who is also a physical education teacher by profession at Pedda Nalla Kaluva ZPHS in Cumbum mandal won silver in 4X400 metres relay in 40 years category while Menaka, a home guard at Jarugumalli police station won bronze in shot put in 35 years category.The federation members appreciated the women for bringing fame to the district and wished that they would bring more medals in the International Tournament also.
