Karimnagar: There was a proud moment for the people of Karimnagar when tricolour was unfurled on 153-feet tall flag-post, the second highest in the State, in the heart of the city on Friday.

The national flag with a gigantic size of 32 x 42 feet was hoisted by Karimnagar MP Boinapalli Vinod Kumar along with City Mayor Ravinder Singh. Speaking on the occasion, MP Vinod Kumar said, “The national flag which is hoisted on Friday will instill the spirit of nationalism among the people and ambition of Telangana State will soar high.”

India is considered as the biggest democratic country in the world. The country is leading towards enormous development and is going to become a super power in next 30 years, he added.

City Mayor Ravinder Singh said that in the year 1937, when Hanumanth Rao tried to hoist the national flag at the same spot, the British government arrested him. To mark that event, the second biggest national flag was hoisted here at the same place.

He also said that it is going to become the new tourist attraction. It was developed at a cost of Rs84 lakh by Karimnagar City Municipal Corporation.
MLA Gangula Kamalakar said, “many soldiers are sacrificing their lives for the sake of nation. One should not forget their sacrifices. Respecting the national flag will give immense peace to their souls.

This national flag will help instill patriotism among residents of the city. It is the pride of Karimnagar people.”While the spot where the flag-post has come up has become the instant hit with the visitors, many of whom were seen busy taking selfies with the huge flag fluttering in the background.

Rajya Sabha MP Captain Laxmikanth Rao, MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, Choppadandi MLA Ravi Shankar, ZP Chairperson Tula Uma, Irrigation department chairman Eda Shankar, Library department chairman Ravinder Goud, Deputy Mayor Ramesh, CP Kamalasan Reddy, Municipal Commissioner Sathyanarayana and others were present.
