Hyderabad: Swedish carmaker Volvo Auto India on Wednesday unveiled V40 hatchback, marking its foray into highly-competitive and fast-selling entry-level luxury car segment currently dominated by Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes Benz A Class, among others.

Featuring numerous safety features including first of its kind pedestrian airbag, the new compact car is available in two variants. The entry-level Volvo V40 Kinetic is priced at Rs 24.75 lakh, while the flagship R-Design variant comes at Rs 27.7 lakh (ex showroom, New Delhi).

“Luxury vehicles priced under Rs 30 lakh account for major chunk of luxury car sales in India. So, we expect V40 to drive our sales growth in the country because the hatchback represents a model which is premium in design, features, technology and safety,” Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, told media after unveiling the model here.

For a change, the Swedish carmaker held national launch of the V40 in the city. Offered with a solitary diesel engine, the model is powered by 2.0-litre twin turbo diesel capable of producing 150 bhp peak power and 350 Nm torque.
