Chevrolet has been a manufacturer which has faced quite a bit of trouble in India. Plenty of recalls and the Tavera fiasco has given a bad name to the brand. However, the American automaker is trying to improve the same slowly and steadily. With sales dwindling continuously, what the company needs is a volume seller.

The Indian market has been loving their MPV’s since years now and sales of cars like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the recently introduced Renault Lodgy are testament to this fact. Chevrolet too plans to get a share of this pie with its upcoming MPV, the Spin.

To be positioned as a premium MPV competing with the Renault Lodgy and the Toyota Innova, the Spin will be well equipped and will come with features usually seen in the segment. Some additional features like a touchscreen music system along with a reverse parking camera might be added to up the premiumness.

What comes as a surprising fact is that all the units imported for homologation purpose are diesel top-end variant which means that the petrol variants might be skipped altogether in the beginning and might be launched at a later stage.

Powering the Chevrolet Spin would be 1.3-litre diesel unit already found under the hood of Chevrolet cars. The engine would produce a healthy 90 BHP of power and will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

We believe that Chevrolet should offer an automatic transmission as an option considering how popular and useful it has become now. With butch yet understated look upfront and a reliable diesel engine under the hood, the Spin might just become the sales success Chevrolet needs currently. It will be positioned above the Enjoy which hasn’t been much successful in the country.
