Volkswagen workers are gathering to hear new chief executive Matthias Mueller brief them on the fallout from the company's emissions scandal.


Thousands were expected at the meeting Tuesday at the company's sprawling headquarters in the northern German town of Wolfsburg.

Volkswagen AG faces fines and lost sales after US environmental regulators found it had installed software to cheat on diesel vehicle emissions tests. The scandal prompted the resignation of longtime CEO Martin Winterkorn, and Mueller - previously head of the Porsche division - was appointed September 25 to succeed him.

Chief employee representative Bernd Osterloh is also expected to address Tuesday's meeting - a previously scheduled gathering that has taken on added urgency since news of the scandal broke. Officials said it would be closed to the media.
