Delhi: Maruti Suzuki Ignis is slated for launch in India by the end of 2016. A slew of new launches from Maruti Suzuki India Limited are lined up for 2016, one of which will be the new Maruti Suzuki Ignis. Maruti Suzuki Ignis compact SUV has been already launched in Japan and will soon be making its way to India during the course of the year. It has now been showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, as a concept.

Seen as a direct rival to the likes of Mahindra KUV100, Maruti Suzuki Ignis compact SUV measures 3679 mm in length, 1579 mm in height and is 1478 mm wide. It sits on a wheelbase measuring 2,435 mm while ground clearance stands at 180 mm.

Features on offer with the concept includes a 4 wheel drive system, hill descent control, lane management system besides front, rear and side cameras for efficient parking assistance. ABS, EBD and driver and co-passenger airbags will also form a part of its safety features.

Spacious interiors with seating for upto 5 adults will also see boot space of 133 liters which can be extended to 258 liter and 415 liters by adjusting split rear seats. The Ignis will receive a well designed dashboard, premium upholstery, bucket seats in front and split seats at the rear.

Engine specifications on the Maruti Suzuki Ignis compact SUV upon launch could include a 1.2 liter K-Series petrol engine borrowed from the Swift while it could also get a BoosterJet turbo diesel petrol engine. Where its diesel engine is concerned, the company could offer a 0.8 liter two cylinder DDiS engine or a 1.3 liter MultiJet diesel engine mated to a 5 speed manual transmission.
