It is not uncommon that names of buyers are kept a safely guarded secret at such auctions. But, due to a blooper of sorts, if we can say that, the company which was the previous owner of this Ferrari, has hinted at the identity of new owner.

This special Ferrari car was in the possession of Alessandro Proto, an Italian billionaire. His luxury car selling organization – Proto handled the auction of this 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti, one of the very few such cars to be in existence today. After the auction, the company’s press release hinted that the highest bidder for the Ferrari is a star football player from Barcelona. Though they did not reveal the player’s name, sport.es has revealed that it is Messi who is the new owner.

In fact, along with Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo had also made a bid to buy this exclusive sportscar. But it seems that Lionel Messi has once again beaten Cristiano Ronaldo this year. When contacted, spokespersons of Messi rubbished the report.
