Honda Cars India Ltd. recently announced that they will offer dual airbags as standard equipment on all their cars. Under this initiative, all Honda vehicles sold in India from April 2017 will get this safety feature. Honda emphasized on the safety features in cars at the launch of the facelifted Amaze in Delhi recently. They expressed their concern over passenger security and plan to introduce more safety features in their vehicles.
These comprise of HID headlamps, multi-view cameras, ABS, EBD etc. as active safety methods and a structurally rigid ACE body structure under the passive safety measure. This structure will make sure that the risks involved in the event of a major crash are reduced.
The company also plans to increase crash testing, usage of proving grounds and even the use of pedestrian dummies to help understand crash situations and how such risks can be minimised on the road.It was Ford India, which started offering dual airbags as standard on all models of their cars, followed by Volkswagen and Toyota.
Not one to stay behind, Maruti Suzuki also started offering airbags as an option on most of its products in the Indian market. It is good to see more manufacturers offering safety features before the government makes it mandatory. Apart from the dual airbags, frontal and side impact crash tests will also be made compulsory from October 2017.
