After launching the Bajaj V15 special edition motorcycle, the Pune-based two wheeler maker is gearing up to venture into the medium displacement segment later this year. Talking to Carandbike.com, Eric Vaz, President (Motorcycle Business), Bajaj Auto, revealed that the next launch would be of a bike which is bigger than any of the brand’s current offerings.

While Mr. Vaz was not specific about the upcoming flagship, it is strongly expected to be based on one of the two concepts – Pulsar CS 400 and SS 400 – that were showcased at 2014 Auto Expo. The Bajaj Pulsar 400 platform is expected to borrow heavily from KTM’s 390 family as far as the engine and gearbox go. The chassis, suspension system and design however are likely to set the Bajaj product apart.

The production version of the Pulsar 400 SS debuted already in the form of the RS 200 so we are willing to wager that the next launch from Bajaj will be based on the Pulsar CS 400. Going by the concept’s design, the Pulsar CS 400’s production model would be a sports cruiser with fresh styling, USD front fork, rear monoshock, upright riding position, touring friendly seats and thick tyres.

The engine displacement is not expected to vary widely from KTM family’s 373.2 cc. Mated to a 6-speed transmission, we expect the Bajaj Pulsar 400 to dish out around 40 PS.
