Made in India by Maruti Suzuki, the new Baleno hatchback was launched today in Japan.Maruti Suzuki India created a new milestone today. A car manufactured at their plant in Manesar was launched in Japan, the home country of their parent company – Suzuki Motors. We are talking about the new Baleno hatchback which was first launched in India last year in October.

The new Baleno was launched in Japan by none other than Mr. Osamu Suzuki, the 86-year-old Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation at an event in Tokyo earlier today. Accompanying Mr Suzuki was Mr. Sujan R. Chinoy, Ambassador of India to Japan.

Unlike India, where the Baleno is available with 1.2-liter petrol K-Series engine and 1.3 liter Fiat sourced MultiJet diesel engine, Japan gets two petrol engine options. These are in the form of 1.2 liter DualJet and 1.0 liter BoosterJet 3 cylinder engine.

Suzuki Baleno with 1.2 liter DualJet engine delivers 91 PS peak power at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm torque at 4,400 rpm. In addition to this, the engine also comes with SHVS technology. This is the same tech which is available in India on board the Ciaz and Ertiga. This engine is mated to a CVT gearbox and claims to deliver 24.6 kmpl.

Suzuki Baleno with 1.0-liter BoosterJet engine delivers 111 PS power at 5500 rpm and 170 Nm torque at 1,500 – 4,000 rpm. This is the first time a car is powered by new BoosterJet 1.0 liter engine. On board Baleno, this engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and claims to deliver 20 kmpl.

Two variants are on offer XG and XT. XG is the base variant with 15-inch wheels and is priced from 1.41 million yen, while XT is the top end variant with 16-inch wheels and is priced from 1.61 million yen. Deliveries of the XG variant start from today, while that of the XT variant will start from 13th May, 2016.

Baleno will be sold in Japan as a CBU from India. Speaking about the quality, Suzuki officials in Japan stated that the quality of made in India Baleno is as good as the quality of the cars made by their engineers in Japan.
