The increase in localization level would help Renault stay competitive. In a bid to stay competitive in an environment of constantly increasing input costs, Renault India is planning to increase the localization of its popular Duster crossover which recently received a facelift. Talking to media on the sidelines of the Renault Duster facelift media drive, Sumit Sawhney, MD, Renault India, revealed that the current localization level is between 70-85% for the crossover and it will be increased to over 80% by late 2016 or early 2017.

The cost efficiency so achieved would be used to absorb the rising input costs which in turn would result in an even more competitive pricing. It’s worth noting that the Hyundai Creta has been having a localization level of more than 90% right from the beginning.

The Duster facelift offers 32 changes and the most important of which is India’s first Easy-R AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). Other noteworthy changes include a revised headlamp, grille, bumpers, taillights, new alloy wheels, piano black cemtre console with automatic climate control system in top-end variant, new seat fabric, and updated platform components and electric architecture.

The 6-speed AMT is paired to the 110 PS version of the 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine in addition to standard 6-speed MT. The 85 PS version of the same motor and 104 PS 1.6-litre petrol engine come mated to a 5-speed MT.
