More feature-rich Kwid variants (both 800 cc and 1.0L) appear to be in the works. The Renault Kwid 1.0-litre SCe variant and an 800 cc variant with alloy wheels were spotted testing in Chennai. The 1.0L variant made its debut at the Auto Expo 2016 and is expected to be launched in mid-2016.

The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is designed to cost, like the existing 800 cc mill. Power and torque figures are not revealed yet but expect the new motor to dish out around 65 PS. In addition to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the Kwid 1.0L SCe will also receive an Easy-R AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

The top-end variant of the more powerful Kwid is expected to be offered with dual-airbags and ABS. The car will be pitted against the likes of Maruti Alto K10 and Hyundai Eon 1.0L. It will also spearhead the nameplate’s export operations.

The regular 800 cc variant of the Kwid was also caught testing with stylish alloy wheels, suggesting that a new top-end variant could be in the making. In addition to standard alloy wheels, the new fully loaded 800 cc variant could offer dual airbags and ABS. The objective is to offer buyers enough options to choose from.

The Renault Kwid has surpassed 100,000 bookings so far in India and the automaker is in the process of increasing the production to keep the waiting period from stretching.
