Toyota is reportedly planning to launch the new Fortuner this festive season. The month of March 2016 witnessed the lowest ever monthly sales performance by the Toyota Fortuner but the brawny SUV managed to stay just ahead of the new Ford Endeavour. As expected, the downward trend continued in the subsequent month as well and this time, the Ford managed to claim the segment leadership.

This is the first time since its launch in 2008-09 the Fortuner failed to post segment leading sales figures. The premium ladder frame SUV from Toyota has been attracting customers with its strong road presence and off-road capabilities but the new Endeavour ticks all those boxes and even more. In addition to competition from its more modern rival, the anticipation for the next-gen Fortuner also comes as a strong reason for the current model’s dwindling sales.

Speaking in numbers, the Fortuner registered sales of 509 units last month as against the new Endeavour’s tally of 560 units. Toyota Kirloskar Motor is reportedly planning to launch the new-gen Fortuner as early as this festive season (September to November). Any delay would simply mean that the new Ford Endeavour will have free run in the market.

The new Toyota Fortuner is based on the second gen IMV platform that also underpins the newly launched Innova Crysta. The 2.4L and 2.8L engines too are shared with the MPV.
