The new Swift which has been leaked at a dealer conference is based on Suzuki’s new global compact car platform which benefits from a strengthened floor pan. The new model and its India-specific Dzire sedan derivative are expected to play a key role in keeping Maruti’s growth rate at around 10% at least till 2020.

ET reports that the automaker has asked its vendors to make new investments and expand capacity to keep pace with the growth rate. The small car specialist is confident of meeting its target of selling 2 million units a year by 2020. Meeting the target would require increasing the production capacity significantly. The Gujarat plant is expected to receive another INR 2,500 crore investment in 2018-19 so that it can enter the second phase of operations.

The Suzuki Gujarat plant which is set to be commissioned in early 2017 will start its operations with the Baleno. The new facility is expected to cater to both domestic and export markets.
