The new engine returns a fuel efficiency of 22.22 kmpl.The new entry level Skoda Octavia 1.0L TSI petrol variant has been launched in Europe. The new variant replaces the 1.2L TSI variants (the base 85 PS Octavia Active 1.2 TSI soldiers on) in a bid to reduce the carbon footprint. The new variant is the first production Skoda to be powered by a three-cylinder turbo petrol engine.

The downsized motor is rated at 115 PS and 200 Nm of torque which would satisfy cost-conscious customers. The engine is essentially a more advanced version of the naturally aspirated 1.0-litre petrol powerplant which powers the Citgo hatchback.
The new motor is not a slouch. Paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, it is capable of propelling the Octavia from rest to 100 kmph in 9.9 seconds before hitting a top whack of 202 kmph which is impressive considering its diminutive size. Under the new EDC, the new variant has a rated fuel efficiency of 4.5L/100 km (22.22 kmpl).
The motor can also be specified with a 7-speed DSG at an addition cost of 1,800 euros (around INR 1.36 lakhs). The performance and fuel efficiency are virtually unchanged. Skoda is expected to introduce a more fuel efficient GreenLine variant of the Octavia 1.0L TSI at a later stage.
