Mahindra just launched the XUV500 W8 Automatic diesel model in Australia. This will be followed up with the more luxurious W10 variant later this year. The more affordable W6 variant will less equipment is expected to be launched next year and that’s when the petrol engine will come into the picture.

Mahindra officials had stated earlier that petrol engine options will be introduced across its lineup in due course. The XUV500 petrol has been spotted testing in and around Chennai (where the company’s R&D centre is located) several times. The specific details of the new petrol motor for the XUV500 are known yet not known yet but we expect it to be a member of a modular platform. The displacement is estimated to be in the region of 1.8- to 2.0-litre. We won’t be surprised if Mahindra decides to add a turbocharger to the equation.

Mahindra Australia is also set to launch new models like the KUV100 and Genio Pickup (ute in Australian lingo) in the near future.
