Launch is set to happen in first week of June.As Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan Alliance, puts it, Datsun India’s two year old operation has been moderately successful. The top official hopes that the Datsun redi-Go will replicate the Renault Kwid‘s success in India.

The redi-Go and Kwid are based on the same CMF-A platform which was primarily engineered in India and has a localization level of around 98%. With an estimated starting price of around INR 2.5 lakhs, the most affordable Datsun car in the word is expected to come as the much needed shot in the arm for Nissan in India.

Bookings for the compact city car has commenced across India and the prices will be revealed in early June. While the Kwid settled for a boxy UV look, the redi-Go adopts a tallboy design with edgy elements to attract the urban youth. The interior design too has nothing in common with the Kwid although several components under the skin are shared.

The Datsun redi-Go is powered by the same 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine which is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Datsun has not revealed the engine specifications but the ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 25.17 kmpl is identical to that of the Kwid. On board the French hatchback, the motor develops 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque.
