Maruti Suzuki’s new Vitara Brezza has seen outstanding demand resulting in increased market share.Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), leading automakers in India are riding high on the success of the recently launched Vitara Brezza. Having received over 50,000 bookings till end of April, MSIL now plans to produce 1 lakh units as against an earlier 80,000 units. This increased production will help reduce waiting period which now stands at between 6-9 months.
The success of Maruti Vitara Brezza has resulted in a steep increase in the company’s market share ni the segment. Maruti’s market share in the sub 4 meter compact SUV segment stands at 26%.
This significant gain for MSIL, considering that this is their first ever sub 4 m SUV and has been just launched. Not only Vitara Brezza is India’s best selling sub 4 meter SUV, it has also eaten into the sales of rivals like Ford EcoSport and Mahindra, which offers three cars in the segment – KUV100, TUV300 and NuvoSport.
Ever since the launch of Brezza, Mahindra has witnessed a notable fall in their sub 4 m SUV market share from over 41% to 35%. Also, as per data received from Society of India Automobile Manufacturers, Ford also experienced a dip in market share, as EcoSport sales were outnumbered by Vitara Brezza.
The year 2015-16 saw a notable number of compact SUVs launched in the country. While Hyundai launched the new Creta, M&M launched the TUV300 and KUV100 along with the NuvoSport. Maruti Suzuki launched the S-Cross and Vitara Brezza and now gears up for added competition in this segment with another sub compact SUV, Ignis later this year. The recently launched Honda BR-V and the upcoming Hyundai Tucson at the end of this year will add to further competition among SUV makers in the country.
