Now that the bold Fiat Toro pickup truck is ready, a passenger carrying derivative based on the same platform sounds like an attractive proposition. Such an upcoming Fiat SUV could emerge as a plausible replacement for the Freemont SUV.

Now that the bold Fiat Toro pickup truck is ready, a passenger carrying derivative based on the same platform sounds like an attractive proposition. Such an upcoming Fiat SUV could emerge as a plausible replacement for the Freemont SUV.

Though Fiat has not revealed any plans to come up with a Toro-based SUV, popular rendering artist Theophilus Chin has created a speculative rendering. The hypothetical SUV assumes the Toro’s design all the way up to the B-pillar post which it adopts a boxy understated design. A well pronounced waistline large alloy wheels, lower body plastic cladding and roof rails make the car look the part.

A simple rear fascia with rectangular windshield and peeled back LED taillights appear to have been inspired from Jeep SUVs. If at all Fiat comes up with such an SUV, the dashboard design would be borrowed from the Toro pickup.

The Toro-based SUV could be positioned to take on the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, upcoming Skoda Kodiaq, etc. on a global arena. Fiat already has both turbocharged petrol (T-Jet) and turbocharged diesel engines (MultiJet) that are capable enough to propel the SUV.

Fiat India has been struggling to stay afloat as sales woes continue. The company’s prolonged inactivity when in comes to new product launches has been hurting the bottom line for the last few years.
