Can Ford Figo ST take on VolksWagen Polo GTI?
Ford has not revealed any plans to come up with a performance derivative of the Figo hatchback.The Fiat Punto Abarth kick started the hot hatchback segment in India which will soon witness the arrival of the VW Polo GTI. These pocket rockets with their hefty price tag won’t be volume pullers but their credentials make them good brand shapers.

If this new trend triggers a chain reaction, we could see more seriously powerful derivatives of regular hatchbacks in India. The Ford Figo ST emerges as once such tempting imagination.
Created by popular automotive rendering artist Theophilus Chin, the Figo ST (Ka ST if it’s to be marketed in Brazil) is a pumped up version of the B-segment hatchback. As with every Ford ST performance variants, the Figo ST would ideally be sporting a larger honeycomb grille with glossy black finish.
Smoked headlamps, sportier bumpers with LED foglights round off the enhancements at the front. Only change in profile comes in the form of the larger ST alloy wheels which are shod with low profile tyres. A roof-mounted rear spoiler, dual exhaust tip, and a black diffuser make up the revised rear fascia.
A pumped up version of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine and beefed by handling package would make the Ford Figo ST a really tempting proportion in the Indian hot hatchback market. The question is, will Ford India be willing to undertake such a project to shape its brand?
