Tata SUV prototypes sent for crash testing
A few units of the Tata Q501 (codename) prototypes have been exported to the US for testing and destruction. The premium SUV which is based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s platform appears to have been sent for crash testing.

The Q501 and Q502 (longer derivative) SUVs will be positioned as Tata’s flagship models when they are ready by 2018. The duo is expected to be made at Fiat-Tata JV plant in Ranjangaon near Pune.
While the Q501/Q502 will derive structural components like floor pans from the Discovery Sport, the engine is expected to come from Fiat. The 2.0-litre MultiJet motor is touted to be the powertrain of choice. Of course, JLR engineers would be offering their engineering inputs.
Both manual and automatic transmissions will be on offer. Higher variants will receive all-wheel drive system that is expected to be more capable than rivals. Tata will also equip its SUV with safety, entertainment and assistance features.
The upcoming flagship Tata SUV will be pitted against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Hyundai Santa Fe. We expect the early prototypes of the Tata Q501 to emerge on public roads in the coming months.
