When it comes to outrageous purchases, it’s hard to beat the royal members of Saudi Arabia. Prince Badr bin Saud has placed the “most convincing bid” to purchase the Bugatti Chiron show car that premiered at Geneva Motor Show this year as well as the outrageous Vision Gran Turismo concept car which was showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year.

The Prince who is estimated to be worth USD 21 billion is reported to have shelled out over USD 5 million dollars for the elite Bugatti duo.

The development of the Chiron is still a work in progress so the show car was a pre-production working prototype (the Vision GT concept works too). Both cars are powered by Bugatti’s monstrous 8.0-litre W16 quad-turbo petrol engine but the output figures were never made public.

Details of Price Saud’s other garage gems are not known but it’s certain that he would have several exclusive acquisitions to accompany the Bugattis. The news of the purchase comes shortly after Bugatti announced that Chiron and Vision GT concept will be displayed together for the first time at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance which is scheduled for next month.

The Bugatti Chiron replaces the Veyron and will be making an attempt to break its predecessor’s production car speed record.
