The Yamaha MT-03 which is essentially a naked version of the R3 is reported to be gearing up for a festive season launch in India. The compact sportsbike was reported to make its Indian debut at Auto Expo 2016 but that never happened.

Like the R3, the MT-O3 is expected to be imported into India as a CKD from Indonesia. The motorcycle will have an estimated price of INR 2.75 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The Yamaha MT-03 is powered by the same cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled motor that powers the R3. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine pumps out 42 PS and 29.6 Nm of torque.

The street fighter gets rid of the clip-on handlebars in favor of a relaxed riding position. It also features new fuel tank pods and a minimal headlamp.

The MT-03 employs regular telescopic front fork and a monoshock rear suspension. The 17-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in 110/70 (front) and 140/70 (rear) section rubbers. Both wheels are retarded by a disc brake each. Going by the R3’s specifications in India, the MT-03 for our market may not have ABS on offer even as an option to keep the costs in check.

The Yamaha MT-03 will be locking horns with the likes of Benelli TNT300, Kawasaki Z250, BMW G310R, KTM Duke 390, etc.
