The festive season is about to get off to a flying start with Ganesh Chaturthi on 5th September 2016, followed by Navratra, Dusshera and Diwali. Automakers are expecting huge sales this festive season.

Hero MotoCorp Ltd and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd (HMSI) are planning large scale sales. In order to meet demand, the two have stocked their dealerships across India like never before.

One of the company dealership in western India confirmed that they have stocked inventory for two months already, and the company has told them if need arises, they can increase the stock inventory for 3 months. Such is the preparation for Diwali 2016.

At the same time, dealers in northern and central India are skeptical of increased sales and though sales were good in the past year, they fear being burdened with unsold stocks. Dealerships across eastern, southern and western India have noted luke warm sale over the past two years but are optimistic of increased sales this festive season and are making sure that they do not run out of stocks during the months ahead.

If August sales of the two brands have shown positive results, the festive season could be equally promising. In August this year, Hero MotoCorp sales increased 28% and stood at 6,16,424 units up from 4,80,537 units sold in Aug 2015. HMSI sales also increased substantially from 3.95 lakh units sold in Aug 2015 to 4.92 lakh units sold in the past month.

For Honda, it is the Activa which is driving sales, for Hero MotoCorp, it is Splendor. It will be interesting to see how the respective sales fare in the next few months.
