Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Limited since May 2010 have now shed the Reva brand to be called Mahindra Electric. Mahindra Electric will be headed by CEO, Mr. Mahesh Babu who takes the place of Mr. Arvind Mathew, who moves on to another position.

Mr Mathew states that while the electric car market is increasing by 50% across the globe, its growth in India is stunted. There are at present 4 lakh electric vehicles in India out of which 95% are two-wheelers with top speed less than 25kmph.

Mahindra Electric plans on selling its electric drive train to other companies while it will manufacture electric cars, license out electric vehicle technologies besides electrify new and existing platforms to delivery zero emission mobility solutions.

Mahindra’s electric car portfolio includes the e2o and recently launched eVerito. Both these cars cater to the passenger vehicle segment, the former is a hatchback while the latter is a sedan. Future launches under Mahindra electric include a 4 door e2o and eSupro.

Mahindra Electric is set to launch e-Supro, India’s first zero emission all-electric van. E-Supro, unveiled at 2016 Auto Expo is an electric version of the Supro 8 seater diesel van. Mahindra e-Supro slated for launch by early October will target fleet operators and e-commerce players such as Flipkart and Amazon. e-Supro will have a sub 2 hours charging time and a 100 km range which will allow vans to make deliveries and return to hubs, working in multiple shifts will be possible while saving fuel costs.
