In a significant development, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) has obtained iron ore block at Bhilwara in Rajasthan, which is spread over 2,000 acres with iron ore reserves estimated to about 270 million tonnes. The proposed mine would be the first captive ore reserve for the steel plant which is working on a capacity expansion project to 20 MPTA in phases.
According to the sources know of the developments, the company has got letter of allocation for iron ore block last week from Rajasthan government, which was endorsed by the mining ministry. RINL is expected to invest about `2,500 crore on development of block including beneficiation unit and pellet plant before transporting to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, sources added.
The company is looking for raw material assets for quite some time both domestically and overseas. Although the company got allotment of Bayyaram iron ore mines, due to protests from locals against diverting the ore to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
SteelMin official lauds RINL
Hyderabad: Lokesh Chandra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, has on Tuesday lauded RINL, which owns Vizag Steel Plant, on its capability to compete with major steel makers like SAIL, Tata Steel despite not having captive mines.
"The efficiency of employees and right kind of leadership are largely contributing for the success of the organization," the senior official said while interacting with the top management on his maiden visit to the RINL in Visakhapatnam. The Joint Secretary also inaugurated the Base Mix Unit related to Sinter Plant 3 of 6.3 MTPA expansion. Chandra observed that RINL would be able to achieve further growth once its expansion plans to increase the capacity to 20 MPTA completed.
He assured that his ministry would render all possible for allotment of mines to the steel maker. AP Choudhary, CMD, RINL, while welcoming the Joint Secretary, thanked steel ministry officials for their support to the RINL efforts to get allotment of iron ore mines in various states.
