MUMBAI: The BSE benchmark sensex recovered over 40 points in early trade on Thursday on selective buying by participants amid RBI plans to take steps to ensure adequate supply of money for credit flows.

The sentiments also improved on Thursday being the last session of current month's expiry in the derivatives segment.
The 30-share index, which lost 63.97 points in the previous session, recovered by 40.93 points, or 0.20 per cent, to 19,897.17 with stocks of capital goods, auto, banking, healthcare and IT sectors leading gains.
On the similar lines, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 12.25 points, or 0.20 per cent, to 5,886.10.
Brokers said select buying by funds and short-covering by speculators as Thursday being the last session of monthly expiry in the derivatives segment, and the RBI plans to take steps such as bond purchases to ensure adequate supply of money for credit flows, influenced the sentiment.
In the Asian region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 0.49 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei up by 0.34 per cent in the early trade. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.40 per cent lower in Wednesday's trade.
