Abhishek Rajan to head its new travel segment Paytm

Paytm, India’s largest mobile payment and commerce platform is betting big on its recently launched travel segment. It has brought on board Myntra’s head of mobile and digital business, Abhishek Rajan to lead the vertical as Vice President.
Abhishek, an IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus will be based out of Bengaluru and will primarily focus on scaling this category. This is his second stint at Paytm where he had earlier played a critical role in setting up the digital payments and e-commerce business.
On his appointment, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder and CEO, Paytm said, “We look at businesses that will help us to be profitable, and there is a lot of incumbency in the online travel segment in India. Abhishek, with his experience, is the right person to lead our efforts.”
Abhishek said, “The travel segment holds a lot of promise as far as Paytm is concerned. I will be looking at leveraging the company’s existing strengths across digital and mobile platforms to establish it as the most prominent player in the online travel space.”
Paytm unveiled its travel business in December last year. Pegged to be the fastest $10 billion category for the company, Abhishek would be driving growth for this category. It will be looking to optimise the mobile platform to establish leadership in the category on the back of this new appointment.
