Visakhapatnam: In all probability, the Ministry of Environment and Forests might relax the Coastal Regulation Zone Act to pave the way for the many hotels to come up on the city shores. Many hotel projects on the shore in the district and elsewhere in the country were held up due to the rigid rules of the CRZ notification of 1991.

CMD, Leela Ventures Ltd Vivek Nair, who is also the member of the committee on CRZ, said the ministry was seriously considering bringing down the no development zone from 200 meters to 100 meters so that many resorts and hotels could come up close to the shore.

“Serious discussions are going on the CRZ notification and the ministry might issue the amendments notice within three months,” Nair said while speaking on “Tourism in Andhra Pradesh-An economic change agent”, during the last day session of Partnership summit here on
Tuesday.

He suggested the AP government to start with entry level hotel industry without making any risk investment. He said 9.8 percent of the workforce is in the tourism and hospital industry and the size has to be increased to eliminate unemployment in the State.

Chairman of ESSEL and ZEE Subhash Chandra tourism alone could eliminate the trade deficit. The country has to provide 100 million jobs by 2020 and only tourism can find the employment,’’ he said and added how Thailand and smaller Asian nations were surging ahead in the tourism industry.
