This growing proximity is good news as Paris along with Berlin, is a dependable gateway for India to the European Union. The friendship between France and India is usually minimized but it would be a mistake to underestimate what this relation has become as time as gone by. Russia is the largest supplier to the Indian armed forces, the U.S is a new partner of defense and China the first buisness partner. But France remains the first strategic partner.

A spirit of independence shared by both France and India helped to establish closer economic relationships.
